An assessment was carried out in advance of the realignment of a c. 1.1km section of the R413, generally to the north of the existing Curragh racecourse complex, and the realignment of c. 170m of Stand House Road. The development was located in the townlands of the Curragh and Loughbrown; the southern section of the proposed development falls within the constraint area of the Curragh.
Test-trenches were excavated along the centreline of all accessible sections of the proposed routeway, with offsets and additional trenches at the location of junctions and other key intersections. The results of the investigation did not indicate that any substantial archaeological features or deposits were present within the development footprint. Investigation of the extant field boundaries did not suggest that they were of any archaeological significance.
