Pre-development testing was carried out on the site of a proposed new Credit Union building at Athy Street, Castledermot, Co. Kildare, on 20 November 2006. The site is located in the heart of the historic town of Castledermot. Testing comprised the excavation of four trenches on the footprint of the proposed development. The excavation revealed rubble layers indicative of two phases of site demolition works. Light-brown clayey sand subsoil was exposed at a depth of 0.36m in the north-east corner of the site. Across the remainder of the site a coarse sand and gravel deposit was uncovered at an average depth of 0.6m. No archaeological material was uncovered.
