Monitoring of the construction of a forestry access road at Burtown Little, Athy, Co. Kildare, took place on 8 March. The forestry access road is located along the line of the townland boundary that separates the townlands of Burtown Little and Burtown Big. The boundary is marked by a small river that forms the western boundary of the field in which the forestry access road was constructed. The access road is adjacent to a church site and graveyard, KD035–030, located some 30m to the west of the townland boundary in Burtown Big. The field is currently arable land. The footprint of the road (c. 130m long and 8m wide) was stripped of topsoil using a mechanical excavator to the level of the natural subsoil. All earthworks associated with the construction of the forest road within close proximity of the monument were monitored. No features or soils of archaeological significance were encountered during the construction of the forest road.
