The site was excavated as part of the N9/N10 Kilcullen to Waterford scheme: Kilcullen to Powerstown. The site was situated on a south-facing slope immediately north of a tertiary road leading north-east from Palatine village. Excavation revealed six cremation pits clustered in an area measuring 6m by 4m in the centre of the site. All six pits contained deposits with burnt-bone fragments, with two of the pits yielding prehistoric pottery sherds. A small modern gravel-extraction pit was located towards the northern end of the site.
