Test-trenching on the N21 Castleisland bypass road improvement scheme at the site of KE039–029 confirmed the presence of an enclosure defined by a bank and ditch with an internal diameter of c. 35m (probably an Early Christian ringfort). The bank has been almost entirely ploughed away, except where it has been incorporated into a field boundary. No internal features were identified, but a probable kiln was discovered outside the circuit of the enclosure. Approximately one-third of the enclosure lies within the road-take. A ditch that appears to pre-date the ringfort was also identified.
