Monitoring of Phase 3 of a housing development was carried out in April 2006 (see No. 898 above, 03E1643 ext.) and a number of possible archaeological features were uncovered. The development area is located in the vicinity of the zone of archaeological potential for a ringfort. Six features uncovered during the monitoring were excavated under an extension to the excavation licence used in Phase 1.
Two of the features were similar to features excavated during previous phases of this project (Excavations 2003, No. 827, by Frank Coyne, and Excavations 2005, No. 698). Pit 10 was a large pit filled with fulacht fiadh-type burnt material, while Pit 6 was a charcoal-lined rectangular pit. There were two other irregular-shaped features and two more pits. An overall assessment of all of the archaeological features uncovered during the three phases of development at this site is currently being undertaken.
