This limited excavation was undertaken on behalf of the DoEHLG as part of conservation works on the national monument. Modern water tanks that were situated close to the ecclesiastical remains were removed, along with their concrete hardstand. This revealed a trench some 13m in length and 2m wide, which was cleaned back and recorded. One subcircular feature was excavated. It contained one fill, in which was found one fragment of badly corroded iron. This feature was interpreted as being modern in date. A drystone wall ran along the eastern edge of the trench and this was also recorded. This wall also appears to be modern in date. Further investigations are planned for the coming year.
