An impact assessment involving a test excavation was requested by Kerry County Council prior to planning approval for the construction of a single dwelling within the constraint zone of a fulacht fiadh (KE049–008). The house site is situated in the townland of Drumultan, Scartaglin, and the monument is located c. 100m to the west of the development. The archaeological assessment entailed the excavation of four test-trenches. Two were laid out across the footprint of the proposed house and the others were placed further to the south along the footprint of the detached garage and the percolation area. The topsoil was removed with a wide toothless bucket to the level of the subsoil and the surface was subsequently examined for any in situ archaeological remains. No features or finds of significance were uncovered.
