The underwater assessment of the impact of a development on Glenicmurrin Lough was centred on two distinctive locations, one in the south-east of the lough at the site of a proposed pumping station and a second in the south-west in the Cashla River, at the site of a proposed dam. In addition to investigation of these immediate areas, consideration was given to the impact of water level rise on any cultural heritage which may be in or around the lake.

There were no archaeological features or deposits noted in the area of the proposed water intake. The metal-detection survey recorded the presence of only three metallic objects. The first of these was a fishing spinner, the second a tin can and the third a small length of wire. All three were easily identified and none were of archaeological significance. There were no archaeological features or deposits noted in the second area, that of the proposed dam. The metal-detection survey of this development area did not record the presence of any archaeological ferrous material. Two metallic contacts were made in this survey; both were seen to be modern.

The proposed development of the dam and control house was deemed to have the effect of increasing water levels in the lough. This could have an impact on any cultural heritage which may be present in the area. Analysis of cartographic evidence accompanied by the site inspection concluded that there was no visible or recorded cultural heritage in the lough that could be impacted on by water level rise.
