Monitoring in August 2006 at the site of a mixed development at Doughiska, Galway, uncovered an irregular-shaped pit filled with burnt stone. A licence to excavate this feature was sought and excavations took place over a period of one week in September 2006. The pit measured 2.5m in maximum length and 1.1m in maximum width. The fill consisted of burnt stone and charcoal fragments, which extended for a depth of 0.75m and overlay bedrock. Charcoal recovered from the feature will help with a date for its use. No artefacts were found in the area of the excavation.
