Excavation was carried out in advance of construction on the N6 Galway to Ballinasloe road scheme; the site was located 2.7km from the town of Athenry, Co. Galway. Testing by Tom Janes in 2005 (Excavations 2005, No. 589) identified a penannular-shaped ditch and charcoal-filled pit. Excavation revealed a small ring-ditch of 4m diameter with a gap to the south disturbed by a tree bole; the gully was 0.5m wide and 0.15m deep and was filled with patches of burnt deposit containing cremated bone. The charcoal-filled pit was 1.4m by 0.8m in width and 0.3m in depth and no relationship between the features could be confirmed.
