This was one of several excavations undertaken for Galway County Council and the National Roads Authority which form part of a wider excavation programme undertaken within c. 15 km of the proposed N6 Galway to Ballinasloe dual carriageway scheme (Contract 4).
An area of c. 150m2 was machine cleared down to the archaeological sediments. The area was then hand cleaned to define further the archaeological component of the site. This consisted of a concentration of heat-shattered stone and a later water channel running north-west to south-east across the site, cutting the burnt mound. No artefacts were recovered from this site. There was no evidence for a trough or any ancillary features associated with a trough under the mound.
