Testing was carried out at Carrownagower, Athenry, Co. Galway, in March 2006. The proposed development involves the construction of ten detached dwelling houses. The site is located in the vicinity of GA097–070. Six trenches were excavated. The stratigraphy was similar throughout, consisting of topsoil and sod overlying a varying depth of friable, mid-brown humic clay which directly overlay bedrock. There were no archaeological features or deposits noted in any of the trenches.
