Following consultation with National Monuments, it was recommended that testing should be undertaken in the area of a proposed pastoral centre south of the existing Roman Catholic church at Church Street Athenry. The proposed development would be located in the vicinity of the medieval town wall. Two trenches were excavated in the area of the development. The testing revealed archaeological features in the form of small pits at a depth of 0.9m. It was recommended that archaeological excavations be undertaken if the development was to proceed at this site.
