Testing was carried out at Abbeytown, Co. Galway, in October 2006. The project involves the laying of water mains in the vicinity of Tuam, Headford and Athenry. The majority of the scheme will be routed along existing roads (and streets in Tuam and Athenry). This entry is in relation to the existing roadway to the east of Abbeytown enclosure, church, graveyard and field system. In all cases the excavations were carried out by machine. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted in the trial-trenches.
