Trial-trenching was undertaken on a greenfield site on the outskirts of Irvinestown, Co. Fermanagh, in advance of a proposed housing development. An impact assessment had shown that 150m to the north-east of the development was a rath (FER173–021), although there were no recorded archaeological sites within the limits of the development. A total of 50 trial-trenches were mechanically excavated to the natural subsoil. There were no archaeological deposits uncovered within any of the trial-trenches.
