Evaluation took place on the proposed site of a private dwelling house. The development site was situated in the heart of an area designated as an area of significant archaeological interest by the Environment and Heritage Service, Northern Ireland. More specifically, there are eleven registered monuments within 1km of the development, which appear to form the core of a deliberately structured ritual complex of prehistoric date. The closest recorded site is FER212–149.
Five trenches were excavated on the site. Trenches 1 and 2 measured 20m by 2.5m. Trench 3 measured 60m by 2.5m. Trench 4 measured 50m by 2.5m and Trench 5 measured 41m by 2.5m. In all of these trenches, the sod and topsoil layers were found to overlie natural strata. No features or deposits of archaeological significance were observed during this exercise.
