Test excavation was carried out at a small site (1104m2) fronting on to Malahide Road close to the centre of Swords village. The site was adjacent to a site at Mount Gamble (now the Pavilions Shopping Centre) previously excavated by Ed O’Donovan, which produced extensive remains of early medieval human burials (Excavations 2002, No. 686, 02E0608). Seven trenches 6–11m long and 1.5m wide were excavated by mechanical digger. No finds or features of any archaeological significance were uncovered.
