Unlicensed monitoring of engineering test-pits was carried out at St Maur’s Church, Rush, Co. Dublin. St Maur’s is a deconsecrated church of probable late 18th-century date that has up until recently been used as an art centre. The proposed development, which is at a pre-planning application stage, will involve the conservation and repair of the church building and its subsequent conversion into a library. As part of this proposed development, six engineering test-pits were excavated by hand. Three of the test-pits were opened within the church, while three more were opened in the surrounding churchyard. Apart from the walls of the standing church, no features or deposits of archaeological interest were noted in any of the test-pits.
