Monitoring was carried out at 53 Thomas Street, Dublin 8, in August 2006. The proposed development entails the construction of a mixed-use unit of commercial and residential property. The development is adjacent to a number of monuments in an area of high archaeological potential.
The site appeared to contain two stratigraphic horizons. The uppermost consisted of a mixture of red brick, mortar and grey/black silty clay, which covered the entire site. The basal horizon comprised green/grey silty sand. This horizon was only impacted in three areas and did not appear to contain any deposits of archaeological significance.
