An additional assessment was undertaken at a development site at 17–19 Sir John Rogerson’s Quay, Dublin 2, following on from the demolition of the previous structures at the site. The first assessment had been carried out by William Frazer prior to demolition (see No. 641, Excavations 2006), which indicted the presence of post-medieval basement structures across most of the south of the site.
Some post-medieval land reclamation deposits with associated wooden posts or planks were noted at the eastern end of Trench 1; however, these deposits appear to have been removed in the rest of the trench by the construction of the basements.
This investigation focused on the northern section of the site and indicated that the truncated remains of post-medieval basement structures survived cut into land reclamation deposits. The results were consistent with the findings of the previous investigation.
