The archaeology uncovered in all the areas tested during the excavation at 12 Fumbally Lane is post-medieval in nature. The structures and deposits uncovered all seem to relate to the brewery/distillery building still standing on the site, which is to be renovated for residential and commercial use. The structures uncovered are all related to water management on the site, be it as a raw material for the industrial processes carried out on the site, stored in a large cistern, or in an effort to prevent flooding from the Poddle, which runs along the eastern boundary of the site. The culverted Poddle also ran through the north of the site.
Medieval archaeological deposits are likely to be located at the site, but these are located more than 2.5m below the current ground level, to judge by the archaeological results from the adjoining site, so will not be disturbed. Monitoring on the site is ongoing.
