An assessment was carried out in advance of a planning application for the proposed extension of the LUAS Red Line route, Section C, from City West to Saggart village in South County Dublin. This land consisted of greenfields located on the north-eastern outskirts of Saggart. The route is bounded to the west by Carters Lane and to the south by Fortunestown Lane. The northern and eastern areas of the site are surrounded by greenfield. An exclusion zone with a 100m diameter was put in place due to the presence of a badger settlement.
Nine test-trenches were mechanically excavated to a depth of 0.3–0.7m across the proposed route extension. No features of archaeological significance were identified during this assessment.
