Testing here was carried out in June 2006. The site is located c. 2km south of the village of Newcastle and c. 80m to the north-east of the tower-house, DU020–008. The development will involve the construction of a single dwelling with an associated septic tank and percolation area. The site covers an area of c. 135m north–south by 110m. The lands are of good agricultural potential and the development site was under pasture at the time of the testing. There was ground disturbance at the centre of the site prior to the testing programme. This area was restripped down to the natural to clarify the character of the disturbed area. No archaeological features or material were identified. A series of nine trenches were opened with a total of 250m of trenching. The topsoil was a mid-brown silty clay with moderate amounts of small stones. The subsoil was a yellowish-brown silty clay of firm compaction. No features or deposits of an archaeological nature were identified during the testing programme.
