A series of eleven test-trenches were mechanically excavated in advance of construction of five three-storey town houses, off Saul Way, Downpatrick. The excavation revealed that the site had been heavily disturbed in the recent past and the original ground level no longer existed with its limits. Modern services, in the form of sewerage pipes and manholes, were identified cutting the underlying subsoil. Nothing of archaeological significance was found during this investigation.
