Test-trenching at the site of a proposed park and ride facility at Cairnshill, Castlereagh, Co. Down, was carried out on behalf of Roads Service Consultancy Eastern Division in response to an impact assessment which identified the existence of an industrial heritage site, Ballylenaghan Sawmill, IHR 02700:000:00, within the boundary of the proposed development. A series of linear test-trenches were placed within the areas of the sawmill, the location of which was identified using a handheld GPS and Irish grid coordinates as supplied by the Industrial Heritage record. Five test-trenches were excavated, revealing a large degree of modern disturbance at the site in the form of 1.5–2m depth of modern infill. No surviving remains of the sawmill were uncovered during the course of the test-trenching.
