Test-trenching was carried out at the site of Hanwood Phase 2 Development, Old Dundonald Road, Belfast, having been commissioned by Castlereagh Borough Council/Hanwood Trust. Testing was carried out over a period of four days within the development, which spanned the Old Dundonald Road between two greenfield areas (Areas 1 and 2). The results revealed that up to 4m of modern infill material extended across the entirety of Area 1, with no archaeological deposits being identified beneath this infill. Testing within Area 2 revealed this area to be largely undisturbed greenfield, within which the possible remains of a prehistoric house slot was uncovered within the north-east corner of the field.
