Non-disturbance underwater archaeological assessment was undertaken of the proposed route for a 3.75mm-diameter outfall pipeline as part of the Moville and Greencastle wastewater scheme. The proposed development focuses on a coastal area of north-east Donegal, on the Inishowen Peninsula, between Moville and Greencastle. The proposed pipeline will enter Lough Foyle at NGR: 2628E, 438780N and run in a south-westerly direction for a distance of 301.7m.
A systematic visual survey and magnetometer survey by handheld metal detection was conducted along the identified survey area and extended beyond the boundaries of the pipeline impact area. Considerable man-made debris was visible on the seabed surface for much of the survey area. No archaeologically significant materials or structures were encountered as part of the survey.
