Test-trenching had previously been undertaken across most of the site by Ciara MacManus, in advance of development, during August 2005 (Excavations 2005, No. 320, 05E0886). This confirmed that, within the area of the six single-storey dwellings, foul treatment system and extensive landscaping located within greenfield space to the north, north-east and south-east of Carnagarve House, no subsurface archaeological features or remains survive. Similar testing within the area of the proposed carpark also confirmed that no subsurface archaeological remains exist within this area.
Revisions to the development proposal to include a further four houses necessitated the undertaking of a further phase of test-trenching within the area to the east of Carnagarve House. This was undertaken on 22 June 2006. No archaeological features or artefacts were identified during testing at the site.
