Eight test-trenches were opened on the site of a proposed commercial development site at The Mall, Ballyshannon. Ten features were found, all of modern provenance, with the earliest dating to the latter half of the 19th/early 20th century. A number of walls were uncovered, all of which were bonded with Portland cement. These walls were probably associated with a slaughterhouse that formerly stood on the site. A dense deposit of butchered bone and the remains of a slaughter/holding stall were also found.
