Monitoring of topsoil-stripping works took place on 8–11 August and 2–5 October 2006 in advance of the construction of a residential housing development. Monitoring revealed that the south-eastern portion of the site had been severely impacted upon during previous works associated with the construction of the buildings which previously occupied the site. As the natural subsoil was directly overlain by layers associated with these buildings, it would appear that much of this area had been stripped of topsoil and that the construction of these buildings would have severely impacted upon any archaeological remains that may previously have survived in situ. Within the undisturbed north-western area, monitoring revealed that the topsoil directly overlay subsoil. No archaeological features or artefacts were identified during the monitoring of topsoil-stripping/ground reduction works within the boundaries of the proposed development site.
