A test excavation was undertaken in March 2006 adjacent to a graveyard at Wallstown, Castletownroche. The site is scheduled for development as a single dwelling house. The church and graveyard (CO018–066(02–03)) lay to the east of the proposed development within the grounds of Wallstown House. The church is located in the centre of the graveyard and survives in poor condition, with only the west gable standing to full height. The tower-house (CO018–067) is located within the existing farmyard and outbuildings have been built against and within the surviving walls. Four test-trenches were opened to determine the extent and nature of subsurface archaeological remains on the site. The topsoil consisted of a deep layer of dark-brown rich podzolic and it overlay friable light-brown stony subsoil. No features of archaeological significance were noted on the surface.
