Three test-trenches were opened on this proposed development site, which is in the environs of a star-shaped fort, using a mechanical excavator. The stratigraphy in all trenches was the same and consisted of 0.15m of concrete and hardcore above a dark-greyish-brown garden soil averaging 0.6m in depth. This overlay an orange/yellow granular boulder clay. No finds or features of an archaeological nature were noted.
