An intertidal assessment was carried out at Rerrin, Bear Island, Co. Cork. The work was undertaken in advance of the construction of a civic amenity area comprising a footpath and seating area, a children’s playground and a six-berth carpark.
The site comprises a 20th-century retaining wall that is bounded by grass-covered salt marsh and stony silty foreshore, which is strewn with considerable quantities of modern debris. There was no aboveground evidence of archaeological features or material in the proposed development area. The metal-detector survey did not record any archaeological material.
