Seven test-trenches were excavated at the site of a proposed retention pond at Irish Distillers. The site is located within the zone of potential of a cave (CO076–004), the mouth of which is located 30m from the culvert draining from the pond. The cave was excavated in 1942 and iron and bronze objects, worked bone and stone dated to the Early Christian period, as well as bird bones, fish shells, charcoal and bones of domesticated and wild animals, were recovered (Coleman 1942). The cave is located in a disused small quarry. Five trenches were excavated to the north of the quarry, and two within it. No archaeological finds or features were noted during testing.
