Five test-trenches were excavated at the site of a proposed housing development in a field to the south-east of Castlelyons village. Stratigraphy in the trenches consisted of a mid-brown stony soil, 0.4–0.5m deep, over orange/brown stony, sandy subsoil; limestone bedrock was visible in places. A limekiln (CO045–008) in the adjacent field will not be affected by the proposed development. No archaeological finds or features were noted during testing.
