Pre-development testing was undertaken at Meenahony, Donoughmore, to fulfil a planning condition for the construction of a single dwelling house. The house site is situated on the southern side of a narrow tertiary road leading to the foothills of the Boggeragh Mountains. It lies just outside the constraint zone of a ringfort situated on a north-facing slope overlooking the Shournagh River. Four test-trenches were opened; two were set out across the footprint of the house and the others were placed along the route of the driveway and in the percolation area. The topsoil consisted of light-brown friable sediment varying in depth from 0.25m to 0.45m. It overlay the natural boulder clay, which consisted of bright orange/brown stony clay with occasional stones. Excavation showed that the field had recently been used for ploughing and nothing of archaeological significance was found.
