Three test-trenches were excavated in a yard and carpark area in the western outskirts of Mallow before the construction of an apartment building, which will include an underground carpark. This development site is located to the west of, and outside, the zone of potential surrounding Mallow town (CO033–093). The stratigraphy encountered in all of the trenches consisted of modern yard deposits of hardcore stone fill and concrete slabs, with modern inclusions such as plastic bags. The yard deposits overlay a 0.3m-thick silty soil layer, which was interpreted as the buried topsoil layer, and this overlay the natural subsoil. There were no archaeological features or finds recorded during test-trenching at this site.
