An application for planning permission to construct a single dwelling house within the constraint zone of a standing stone at Leadawillin, Coachford, Co. Cork, led to a test excavation being undertaken at the site. The proposed house is on a south-facing slope and the standing stone (CO060–139) is located at the south-east corner of the field close to a stream. The area surrounding the standing stone and stream will form part of a wildflower meadow at the southern end of the development and the dwelling house will be sited at the opposite end of the field. Three test-trenches were placed in those areas of the development that were subjected to maximum ground disturbance. These were all excavated to a level below the natural boulder clay and no features or finds of archaeological significance were noted in any of the investigated areas.
