It was proposed to develop a site at Kilgobnet, Clondrohid, Macroom, Co. Cork, with a new dwelling house; testing was requested as a condition of planning. The site of the proposed dwelling was located within the demarcation circle of a group of archaeological monuments (CO059–065), but the site of the dwelling lay outside the actual limits of the monuments.
Testing revealed that c. 10m on the south-west part of the site was heavily disturbed by field clearance dumped in a pit or drain. The disturbance occurred to a depth of over 2m below the surface. To the north of this the ground was disturbed to a depth of c. 1m. The remainder of the site revealed a very similar soil profile, c. 0.5m of topsoil overlay natural hard stony yellow subsoil. No finds or features of potential archaeological significance were observed.
