Seven test-trenches were excavated in agricultural land at the site of a proposed housing development on the north side of Inchydoney Island. Stratigraphy in the trenches along the route of the proposed access road consisted of 0.25–0.6m of featureless topsoil, over light- to yellow/brown subsoil with patches of bright orange in places. In the southern part of the site, a north-facing field, the 0.25–0.4m of topsoil was very sandy and in places the underlying geology consisted of natural sand. Two drainage features and a deposit of dumped stony material containing animal bone and seashells were recorded; these are of 19th/20th-century date. No archaeological finds or features associated with the nearby church and graveyard (CO135–104(01, 04)), the souterrain (CO135–104(03)) or the possible ecclesiastical enclosure (CO135–104(02)), were noted during testing.
