A pre-development test excavation was undertaken at Garrynagranoge, Charleville, Co. Cork, prior to planning approval for the construction of a single house. The proposed house site is situated on a north-facing grassy slope with panoramic views towards the Ballyhoura Mountains. The site of a ringfort (CO002–108) is located on the west side of a hedgerow, forming the western boundary to the house site. This monument was levelled some years ago and no visible surface trace of the enclosing elements survives. Three test-trenches were laid out across the footprint of the proposed house and two others were placed along the route of the driveway and in the percolation area. The topsoil consisted of light-brown friable sediment, varying in depth from 0.25m to 0.4m. Modern cultivation furrows were visible on the underlying natural ground, but no archaeological deposits or finds were apparent.
