Excavations were carried out at a site at River Lane, Blarney Street, Cork, situated within the zone of archaeological potential for CO074–122 (historic city). The proposed development site was located immediately east of River Lane, running perpendicular to Blarney Street and Sunday’s Well Road. The site was bounded to the north by modern dwelling houses, to the east and west by retaining walls and to the south by a large development that had removed the bedrock to a depth of c. 60m. The site sloped gradually southwards on the eastern side and very steeply on the western side. A large spoilheap on the western side coupled with the extreme slope made trenching in this area impossible at this time.
Four test-trenches were placed in the available ground and no archaeological features were exposed during the testing of this site.
