Four test-trenches were excavated at the site of a proposed development at the north-east corner of Old Market Place, in the Shandon Street area of Cork. The stratigraphy on the site, following demolition of the existing buildings and site clearance, consisted of pink/brown stony subsoil with red sandstone bedrock very close to the surface. No archaeological finds or features were noted during testing.
