An archaeological foreshore assessment, including a metal-detection survey, was carried out at the site of a proposed new slipway in Coosavaud, Rerrin, Bear Island. The proposed development site is located in a south-east-facing cove on the south side the island. The cove is approached along a narrow access road from the north.

A slipway is located in a shallow narrow natural inlet that extends eastwards out into the open sea. It measures 32m in overall length by 3.9m by 0.4–1.2m in depth. The final 3m of the slipway maintains a depth of water at low tide. There are no railings or lighting on the slipway. The slipway is not indicated on the first- or second-edition OS maps and its construction can be dated with some certainty to the first half of the 20th century. The slipway is used primarily for swimming lessons and is infrequently used for marine traffic.

No archaeological artefacts, stratification or features were encountered during the assessment and metal-detection survey.
