Five test-trenches were excavated at the site of a proposed sewage treatment works to the south of Castletownroche village. Stratigraphy in the trenches consisted of mid-brown stony soil, 0.4–0.5m deep, over orange/brown stony subsoil. The ‘holy well’ and sheela-na-gig (CO026–086(01, 02)) to the east and the mill (CO025–087) to the south will not be affected by the proposed development. No archaeological finds or features were noted during testing.
