A test excavation was undertaken at Ballygrace, Churchtown, as part of an assessment for a proposed single-house construction. The house site is within the constraint zone of a fulacht fiadh (CO016–221). Five test-trenches were opened; two across the footprint of the proposed house, another along the route of the driveway and the remainder were set out to incorporate two soakaway pits that were located 40m from the fulacht fiadh. The trenches were all excavated to a level below the natural boulder clay and no features of archaeological significance were noted in any of the investigated areas.
