Three test-trenches were excavated across a small site in the vicinity of Ballintemple graveyard in June 2006. It was proposed to construct five houses on this site. Topsoil had been removed from part of the site prior to excavation.
The development site is adjacent to Carrigmore limestone quarry, now disused, and bedrock was visible at the surface to the immediate south of the extant house on the site. The stratigraphy in the test-trenches indicated that c. 0.25m of topsoil overlay an orange/brown subsoil with frequent small limestone inclusions. North–south ridges of bedrock traversed the site, often immediately below the topsoil. The intervening gullies were filled with subsoil. An existing north–south pipe crossed the western part of the site and had been laid in one of these gullies. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted.
