Monitoring was undertaken in November 2006 in the Regional Park, Ballincollig, during the initial phase of groundworks associated with the construction of a skateboard park. The site is located on the western outskirts of the village, on the southern side of the River Lee, within the archaeological constraint zone of the Gunpowder Mills (CO073–043). The civil works involved the construction of a concrete slab, a fence surrounding the slab, chambers and ducting for public lighting and access paving. A very thin cover of sod was initially removed and this revealed a layer of introduced soil, varying in depth from 0.25m to 0.46m. This made ground was removed to reveal the natural subsoil and no features or finds of archaeological significance were visible on the surface.
