Eleven test-trenches were excavated in a greenfield site located 100m north-west of Ardnagashel House. This country house is included in the Record of Protected Structures (RPS 00677) in Cork County Council’s Development Plan. The proposed construction project will entail the construction of eight holiday homes. The stratigraphy encountered in all of the test-trenches consisted of a dark-greyish-brown topsoil, which ranged between 0.1m and 0.4m in depth, and this overlay the natural boulder clay. The surface of the natural subsoil was truncated by frequent plough furrows and field drains. There were no archaeological features or finds recorded during test-trenching at this site.
